This seemingly straightforward question can be surprisingly complex to answer. Hearing impairment often develops gradually, allowing individuals to adapt over time and become less aware of their declining auditory capacity.

This application was developed as part of the Thai Speech Acoustic Virtual Reality (Thai-SAVR) project's initiative to facilitate early detection of dementia, in collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and University College London. The project was funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and the Program Management Unit for National Competitiveness (PMUC). Eartone Co., Ltd. contributed support during the development process.

EarTest by Eartone is a self-administered hearing screening application designed for home use. It is suitable for individuals with existing hearing impairments, those at risk of developing hearing issues, or members of the general population interested in evaluating their auditory health. This tool can serve as an initial screening measure prior to consulting a healthcare professional, potentially helping to identify early signs of hearing decline and reduce associated risk factors.

The application's functions include:

• Test 1: A brief screening that presents sound stimuli at 35 dB across seven frequencies—500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 3000Hz, 4000Hz, 6000Hz, and 8000Hz—testing each ear separately, beginning with the right ear. Results are provided after completion.
• Test 2: A more comprehensive assessment aiming to identify the quietest audible sounds across eight frequencies—250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 3000Hz, 4000Hz, 6000Hz, and 8000Hz—and presenting detailed results with accompanying graphs and descriptions.
• Test 3: A hearing test involving three numerical stimuli presented amidst background noise to evaluate auditory perception under challenging conditions.

The self-assessment component comprises eleven items intended to evaluate the user's risk level for hearing loss, categorized into excellent, moderate, and severe risk conditions.

The application also features various informational pages:

• Question page providing additional educational content for users.
• Reference page detailing relevant research studies and application information.

The application supports both English and Thai languages, with easy language switching available within the app.
